BAPTISM IN OUR PARISH

Infant Baptism for Children up to and including the age of 7 years

Baptism marks the beginning of your child’s life of faith, and it is a deeply meaningful occasion for your family.
It is the first of the three Sacraments of Initiation—followed by Confirmation and then the Eucharist—and it opens the doorway to a lifelong relationship with God and the Church. By choosing baptism, you’re welcoming your child into a faith community where love, support, and spiritual guidance surround them.

This faith journey is shared. Parents play the central role, but grandparents, godparents, friends, and the wider parish community all contribute to nurturing your child’s spiritual growth. This is why baptisms are normally celebrated within your parish church—because it’s the spiritual home where your child will learn, build connections, and grow in their faith.
As a parish family, we walk with you, supporting you as you help your child learn to live their faith in everyday moments.

Baptisms at St Anthony’s Church Alexandra Hills and St Lukes Church Capalaba are held every Sunday at 10:30am throughout the year.
Before the Baptism, parents take part in a Preparation Session, usually held on the Third Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm at St Anthony’s Church. Bookings through the Parish Office are essential.

Baptism for Older Children
If your child is 8 years old or older and has not yet been baptised, we offer a special preparation pathway suited to their age. At this stage, children take part in a child-friendly adaptation of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). This helps them learn about Jesus, understand the foundations of the Catholic faith, and become part of the parish community in a way that is meaningful for them.

If your child is starting to ask questions about faith, or if you feel this may be the right time, we invite you to contact the Parish Office for more information.

Baptism for Adults
Adults and teenagers who have not yet been baptised—or those baptised in another Christian tradition—are also welcome to enter the Catholic Church.

The preparation process is personalised, depending on your faith background and previous involvement in other Christian communities.
Those already baptised in another Christian denomination usually prepare to receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and the Eucharist.
For individuals who have not been baptised, full initiation normally takes place at the Easter Vigil through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), a journey of learning, reflection, and faith.
